As per the LOS E, we are required to:
identify and describe information sources that analysts use in financial
statement analysis besides annual financial statements and supplementary
information.
Apart from the above-mentioned statements, the analysts can also get relevant information for their analysis from other sources as well. Some of the other sources of information are:
a. Interim Reports. Companies and some other reporting entities, apart from the above-mentioned annual reports also publish interim reports in the middle of the year as well. Some companies do issue financial statements on a monthly/quarterly/semi-annual basis. This gives a good deal of information regarding the seasonality and other trends of the company.
b. Corporate Statements and Press Releases. The information about the company can also be found in the news published in the press releases, on company websites, tenders offered, etc. There is also information regarding the profitability etc. published by the companies on the investor’s relation page of the company’s website.
c. Proxy Statements. When a matter requires the shareholder’s opinion, these statements are issued to them, calling for their opinion on the matter.
